25 years of winning baseball. The Yankees won their 82 game on Saturday. That means they will have a winning percentage above .500 in 2017, just like they have every season since 1993. 15 of those 25 were 90-win seasons (5 were over 100). 18 (and will be 19) of the 25 were playoff teams, 7 made the World Series, and 5 won the World Series.
It's no surprise that the Yankees have the best winning percentage over the past 25 years.
Win% (1993-2017)
The number two team on this list, the Braves, went 15 years without a losing record from 1991-2005. The Red Sox went 14 straight years (1998-2011). This will be the Cardinals 10th straight winning season.
On the flip side, the worst team over the past 25 years has been the Pirates. This may surprise you; the Pirates have made the playoffs three of the last four seasons. But before 2013, the Pirates were under .500 for 20 straight years.
Stocked with a young core of good players, the Yankees have a good chance of continuing this streak for several more years. But, they have a long way to go to tie the franchise record of 39 seasons (1926-1965).
Baseball is here! And more importantly, that means the over/under game is back. It seems as though everyone is an expert this time of year. Somehow we convince ourselves that we are better at predicting baseball outcomes than everyone else. Well, AFITB is putting that to the test for the third year in a row. Think you know more about baseball than us? You probably do. But go ahead and prove it anyway.
