It's been a few months since my last "best of" list. In April, I did the best and worst bunts in baseball history. After Austin Jackson's crazy awesome catch on Tuesday night, I decided to put together my top five home run robberies of all time.
Keep in mind, the catch has to save a fly ball from going over the fence to make the list. The Griffey wrist-breaker, for instance, is not eligible.
5. Ichiro - 5/25/05
Ichiro! He climbed the wall too quickly and had to reach back to get it. Such a fun play.
4. Ken Griffey - 4/26/90
There are several Griffey catches to choose from, but I love the announcer's call on this one: "An incredible catch by The Kid!"
3. Kenny Lofton - 8/4/96
Lofton gets a good three feet above the fence. Great use of the wall.
2. Gary Matthews - 7/1/06
Matthews caught this with his back to the infield!
1. Dewayne Wise - 7/23/09
I think this catch is severely underrated. Wise robbed a homer to preserve a perfect game in the 9th inning! And he juggled it all the way to the ground! Turn up the sound because Hawk calls this one fantastically.
There are so many great catches I had to leave off. Please do yourself a favor and click these links.
Baseball is here! And more importantly, that means the over/under game is back. It seems as though everyone is an expert this time of year. Somehow we convince ourselves that we are better at predicting baseball outcomes than everyone else. Well, AFITB is putting that to the test for the third year in a row. Think you know more about baseball than us? You probably do. But go ahead and prove it anyway.
